Colonels Have Six Players in Double Figures, Outlast Lynx 88-78
MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's basketball team surged in the second half to earn an 88–78 home victory over Lesley University on Friday night at Katz Gymnasium. Behind a balanced scoring effort and their most efficient offensive performance of the season, the Colonels improved to 1–2 and secured a home court victory in the first game of the Annual Autism Awareness Classic at Curry.
Despite trailing 40–39 at halftime, Curry's energy and depth took over in the final 20 minutes, outscoring the Lynx 49–38 thanks to good ball movement, timely shooting, and a strong defensive effort that forced nine second-half turnovers.
Freshman guard Manny Hidalgo led the way with a team-high 16 points, adding five rebounds, three assists, and three steals in a dominant two-way performance that sparked Curry's second-half surge.
Senior guard Tommy Mallinson continued his impressive early-season play with 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting while going a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line.
Curry's bench delivered the difference-making punch. Senior forward Jake Bernardo provided a game-changing effort with 14 points, six rebounds, and four steals—constantly disrupting passing lanes and fueling transition opportunities.
Freshman guard Isaiah Andino added another 14 points in 27 minutes, attacking the rim and providing crucial scoring bursts that kept Curry in control.
Sophomore guard Jeremiah Predin finished with 10 points and three assists, while junior Favour Okeke contributed 10 points and two rebounds, hitting a pair of threes to ignite momentum swings.
As a team, Curry shot an impressive 50% from the field (34–68), their best mark of the season, and dished out 16 assists on 34 made baskets. The Colonels also won the turnover battle decisively, committing just nine giveaways, compared to Lesley's 22.
Lesley was led by Moses Semuhoza, who posted a 23-point, 8-rebound performance, and Ryan Ellis, who recorded a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Freshman guard CJ Leonard also added 17 points off the bench for the Lynx.
The Colonels will be set to host once again on Saturday, as they will take on winner of game #2, Salve Regina, at 3 PM.
