MILTON, Mass. - Curry College was defeated 97-81 by Western New England University in a Conference of New England men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium.
With the loss, the Colonels' overall record drops to 2-21 and their conference record falls to 1-15.
After trailing by as many as 19 points early in the first half, Jaiden Mann caught fire, shooting 6-for-9 from the field including three triples, the last of which was knocked down with just seconds remaining in the half to send the Colonels to the locker room trailing by just seven points.
Francisco Lopez opened up scoring in the second half with a quick jumper to cut the lead to 50-45. Mann continued to pile on in the second half, knocking down three threes including an and-1 that resulted in a four-point play to put the home team within six points of the WNE lead early in the second half. Despite Mann putting up 25 points in the second half alone, the Golden Bears slowly extended their lead, putting the game out of reach for the Colonels.
Mann finished with 43 points, placing him third all-time for points scored in a single game by a Curry men's basketball player. 43 is also the most points scored by a freshman in a single game in program history. Jake Bernardo scored nine points off the bench while Lopez had 10 points off a pair of threes.
Curry College returns to action on Wednesday, February 19th, in an away game at the University of New England beginning at 7:30 p.m.
