HARTFORD, Conn. - Curry College earned its first Conference of New England victory, defeating the University of Harford 70-68 in a men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Chase Arena.
With the win, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 2-11 and a conference record of 1-5.
After going back and forth for the majority of the first, the Colonels finished the half with a 12-7 scoring run to amass a 34-26 lead heading into the locker room. From there the Hawks battled back, eventually retaking a 59-54 lead with just over six minutes remaining.
A pair of made free throws by Favour Okeke tied the score at 64-64 with three minutes in regulation. Francisco Lopez made a clutch steal coming out of a Curry timeout, finding Jaiden Mann who knocked down a jumper to put Curry on top by two. Layups by Shawn Charles and Lopez with under two minutes remaining gave the Colonels a 70-66 advantage that would prove to be enough to keep the Hartford offense at bay.
Three Colonels finished with double-digit scoring numbers, led by Okeke with a season-high 18 points, knocking down 3-for-6 from behind the three-point line while grabbing six rebounds. Charles was another big contributor with 16 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks while Mann finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Curry College looks to make it two wins in a row, returning home to take on the University of New England on Wednesday, January 15th, at 7:30 p.m.
