Men's Basketball Edged Out by Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. - Curry College was defeated 76-74 by Endicott College Saturday night in a Commonwealth Coast Conference men's basketball game at MacDonald Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Colonels fall to an overall record of 6-6 while dropping to a 0-5 record in conference play.

Curry came out the gate with hot hands, knocking down their first three three-pointers to fire out to an early 9-6 lead. Senior Nick Johnson (Athens, Ga.) got the three-point party started, knocking down the first shot of the game, followed by a pair of threes by freshman Favour Okeke (East Hartford, Conn.). The three-point barrage continued as Okeke hit another one, followed by a Tommy Mallinson (Wilmington, Mass.) triple that put the Colonels on top 15-9 within the first five minutes of action.

After trailing by as many as 12 points, the Colonels battled their way back into the contest, culminating in a three-point play where graduate student Jonathan Joel (Cranston, R.I.) got fouled on his way to the basket, finished the layup, and knocked down the free throw to tie the game at 72-72 with just over one minute remaining.

Four Colonels finished in the double digits, led by Okeke with 17 points on 4-for-5 shooting from behind the arc. Jason Romans (Peabody, Mass.) was close behind with 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Mallinson and sophomore Carl Monplaisir (Vero Beach, Fla.) finished with ten points each.

Curry College returns home on Saturday, January 6th, to take on the Western New England Golden Bears in a conference matchup beginning at 2 p.m.
