Men’s Basketball Hits Game-Winner in OT to Remain Undefeated

BOSTON - Curry College defeated UMass Boston 79-77 in overtime Tuesday night in a non-conference men's basketball game at Clark Athletic Center.

With the win, the Colonels remain undefeated on the season with an overall record of 5-0.

With the score tied at 77-77 and seconds remaining in overtime, the Colonels inbounded the ball to Jason Romans (Peabody, Mass.), who dribbled past a defender and took a contested pull-up jumper at the top of the key to score the game-winning shot as time expired.

After scoring only 19 in the first half and trailing by as many as 12 points, Romans and Lowelle Torres (Vineland, N.J.) combined for 34 of Curry's 44 second-half points. The Colonels clawed their way back into the game after trailing for the majority of the contest as Romans knocked down a free throw at the end of regulation to tie the game at 63-63 and send the game to overtime.

Overtime was a team effort for Curry as five different players had field goals on 7-for-11 shooting during the five-minute period leading up to Romans' buzzer-beater.

Romans led the Colonels with 26 points, while hauling in 10 rebounds, dishing out seven assists, and snatching four steals. Torres finished with 24 points and nine rebounds while sophomore Shawn Charles (Vero Beach, Fla.) finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Curry College begins conference play on Wednesday, November 29th, hosting Wentworth. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
