Colonels Defeat Fighting Scots

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College Men's Basketball defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Gordon College Tuesday evening by a final score of 76-69.

With the win, the Colonels improve to 4-10 overall this season and 2-5 in the CCC.

The visiting Fighting Scots gained a lead early in the conference matchup, outscoring the Colonels 8-2 through the opening three minutes. Field goals from Jason Romans (Peabody, Mass.) and Shawn Charles (Miami, Fla.) brought the Colonels right back into the action, now trailing 8-6. The Colonels would gain the lead seven minutes into the half on an Angelo Sardegna (Tampa, Fla.) layup. The two conference sides would battle back and forth through the half, Gordon College coming within one of Curry's lead after three successful free throws by Bryce Smith with 1.6 seconds left on the clock. Curry would head into halftime leading 33-32.

The second half began in favor of the Colonels, Jason Romans knocking down a three to grant Curry a five-point lead. A Nick Johnson (Athens, Ga.) corner-three pushed the Colonels to a 47-39 lead with 14 minutes left in regulation. The Colonels extended their lead to 11 following two unanswered layups by Nick Johnson and one by Shawn Charles with six minutes remaining. The visiting Fighting Scots came within six points of the leading Colonels with one minute on the clock, however, a dominant defensive strategy in the game's final moments by Curry closed out the conference bout with the Colonels coming out on top, 76-69.

The Colonels were led by Lowelle Torres (19 points, 8 rebounds), Jason Romans (17 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds), and Angelo Sardegna (12 points, 5 assists).

The Colonels return to the court Saturday as they travel to face CCC opponent Western New England at 3 PM.
