The contest began evenly matched through the opening five minutes. Endicott gained a quick 10-point lead following a trio of shots from beyond the arc. Curry's Todd Robinson (Brockton, Mass.) kept the Colonels in the contest with two more layups, Curry now only trailing by four with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. With under three minutes remaining in the first half, Curry's Sardegna dropped another field goal to put the Colonels within three points of the hosting Gulls. Curry guard Sante Smith (Norfolk, Va.) knocked down a clutch three with under a minute on the clock to send the two sides into halftime tied at 38 apiece.
