Colonels Stopped Short by Gordon College

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Men's Basketball team was defeated by Gordon College in conference play Saturday evening by a score of 92-77. 

With the loss, Curry falls to 2-18 overall this season and 1-12 in the conference. With the win, Gordon improves to 8-11 overall and 5-9 in the conference. 

The contest began evenly matched between the two conference opponents, with the score within two points midway through the first half. Two sets of free throws from the visitors gave them the seven-point edge with under 10 remaining in the half. A Nick Johnson (Athens, Ga.) shot from the field paired with an Angelo Sardegna (Tampa, Fla.) shot from well beyond the arc closed the Gordon lead heading towards the end of the first half. Sante Smith (Norfolk, Va.) and Seth Foley (Terryville, Conn.) combined for five more points, closing the deficit to six. Fighting Scots' guard Bryce Smith would knock down a three late in tandem with a Caleb Scott layup, holding the slight lead. The contest would head into halftime with the visiting Gordon College in front, 47-36.

A flurry of threes from the Colonels brought the contest within their reach. Curry's Sardegna would see two more shots drop from deep and Lowelle Torres (Vineland, N.J.) would tally a three and a layup to tie the matchup at 51 apiece. The Fighting Scots surged forward and grabbed 18 points to Curry's six with under ten minutes to play. Sardegna continued his hot streak late in the second half, recording two more threes, his side now down eight points. The visiting Gordon College Fighting Scots would hold onto their lead and close the contest with a final score of 92-77.

The Fighting Scots were led by Garrett Sattazahn (24 pts, 5 reb) and Parker Omslaer (19pts, 8 reb).

The Colonels were led by Angelo Sardegna (27 pts, 3 ast) and Lowelle Torres (25 pts, 10 reb).

Curry gets back on the court Tuesday as they travel to face Endicott College at 5:30 PM on the road.
