Men's Basketball Topped by Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. - The Curry College men's basketball team could not keep up with Gordon College Wednesday evening, falling by a final score of 84-62 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest at Kanas Court.

With the defeat, the Colonels see their record fall to 2-13 overall on the season and 1-7 in the CCC.

Curry kept things tight in the opening half, but the Fighting Scots took a narrow 38-35 advantage into the locker room. Gordon led by as many as nine at 21-12 midway through the opening half, but Curry battled back to briefly take the lead late in the period. The Colonels went ahead 35-34 on a Lowelle Torres (Vineland, N.J.) layup with 1:27 showing on the clock in the first, but the hosts scored the final four points of the half to lead by three going to the break.

The Curry offense went quiet in the second half as Gordon pulled away to claim the convincing victory. Curry shot just 11-of-41 (26.8 percent) from the floor in the game's final 20 minutes, while Gordon went 17-for-27 (63.0 percent).

Pacing the Colonels offensively was sophomore Frankie Santiago (New Britain, Conn.), who finished the evening with 18 points. Torres was Curry's second-leading scorer with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

The Colonels will return to the hardwood on Saturday when they host Salve Regina University in CCC action at the Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
