Colonels Stumped by Williams College

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Curry College men's basketball team fell to non-conference opponent Williams College Saturday evening in the first round of the Williams College Tournament.

With the loss, Curry falls to 0-4 overall on the season. With the win, Williams improves to 2-0 overall on their young season.

The Ephs took off with an early lead in the first half. A 26-5 run through the first ten minutes of the contest granted Williams a commanding lead. Williams forwards Nate Karren and Declan Porter combined for 11 in this time frame as sophomore guard Cole Prowitt-Smith 7 tallied seven.

The Colonels retaliated with a Michael August (Stratford, Conn.) jumper and a pair of threes from Angelo Sardegna (Tampa, Fla.) shortening the Ephs' lead. The Colonels would then trail 15-31 with just under eight minutes left in the first half. A 13-5 run in favor of the hosts would close out the first half. Ephs' forward Declan Porter continues to have a hand in the team's success, tallying 10 points through the first 20 minutes. Williams would head into the half leading 44-20.

The Ephs held their lead through the duration of the contest. Williams found themselves on another point run at the Colonels' downfall. The 14-6 run through the first six minutes of the second half furthered the already comfortable lead held by Williams. Curry forward Seth Foley (Terryville, Conn.) knocked down a pair of consolation threes under the ten minute mark, still unable to close the lead Williams presented in the contest.

Ephs forward Nate Karen led his side with 15 points in the win as Declan Porter dropped 13 for himself. Spencer Spivy also grabbed 9 boards for the Ephs, leading the hosts.

Curry's Angelo Sardegna (Tampa, Fla.) dropped 10 points for the Colonels leading his side in the loss.

The Colonels head back out on the court Sunday, November 21 as they take on Merchant Marine in the second day of the Williams College Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
