MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College men's basketball dropped a 74-62 decision to conference foe Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon inside the Katz Gymnasium. The win moves the Hawks to 14-3 overall with an 8-2 mark in the CCC while the Colonels fall to 1-16 overall and 0-10 in league action.

The teams traded the first 39 points of the contest as the game was tied up at 19 on a free throw by James Pina (Warwick, R.I.). Following the basket by Pina, Andrew Wasik (Gainesville, Fla.) knocked down a triple with 5:51 to go in the half to give the Hawks the three point advantage (22-19).

The Colonels would come right back and tie the game at 24 on a three by Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.). Curry would eventually take the lead following three free throws by Pina to put the Colonels up 27-24 with two and a half minutes remaining in the half.

The lead would get as high as seven after Pina knocked down a three but Wasik hit a jumper at the end of the stanza to cut the Colonels lead to five (34-29) heading into the locker room.

Roger Williams came out of the intermission and went on a 9-4 run over a three minute span to gain a one point advantage at 39-38 on a layup by Austin Coene (Tyngsborough, Mass.) with 16:41 to go in regulation.

They would build their lead to six over the next few minutes as Jordan George-Bellitti (Cambridge, Mass.) trimmed the deficit to as few as two at 51-49 with 9:59 to go.

With every Curry run, Roger Williams had the answer. They stretched their lead back up to nine (58-49) on a three by Jaylen Jennings (Norwalk, Conn.). The lead would eventually hit double figures on a layup by Conor O'Brien (Sharon, Mass.) with 5:19 left. The Hawks saw their lead get to as many as 16 in the final minutes as Roger Williams would get the 74-62 win over the Colonels.

Coene led all players with a game-high 25 on 11-of-15 shooting from the field, including 3-of-8 from distance. O'Brein and Wasik put up 15 points and 10 points, respectively, as the other Hawks in double figures.

Thorpe-Johnson paced the Colonels with 20 points on the afternoon. He shot 6-of-10 from the field, 3-of-5 from three and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Pina chipped in 18 points and added seven rebounds in the loss. Kieran Carroll (Greenwich, Conn.) was nearly in double figures. The freshman put up nine points and seven rebounds.

Roger Williams held the edge in field goal percentage, shooting 46.7% compared to 34.4% from Curry. The Colonels shot 35% (7-for-20) from three, had the advantage in points off turnovers (10-8) and hit 61% of their free throw opportunities. The Hawks won the rebounding battle and had the assist advantage. Curry also won the turnover battle, converting five less than Roger Williams.

Curry will close out a two-game homestand on Tuesday when they welcome in Endicott for a 5:30 contest. Roger Williams returns to the hardwood Wednesday as they are set to battle league frontrunner Nichols at 7:30 p.m.
