Men's Basketball Tripped up at Wesleyan, 88-55

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.- The Wesleyan Men's Basketball team won their seventh game in a row (7-1) by defeating Curry College (0-10) on Thursday night in Silloway Gymnasium. The Cardinals shot 50.7% from the floor and 35.7% (10-28) from the three-point line.

The Cardinals got off to a slow start as they fell behind by 5, 9-14, with just under five minutes into the game. The Cardinals quickly got some momentum thanks to a three pointer by Senior Joe Edmonds to bring the Cardinals within two. Junior Harry Rafferty followed with a layup to tie the game at 14 all. Curry would regain the lead thanks to a layup by Freshman Ryan Beatty, but Edmonds would bury a layup and the game would be tied yet again. The first half saw six ties in total. With 8:58 remaining, Sophomore Nathan Krill converted on a layup attempt that would put the Cardinals ahead by one at 24-23. Senior BJ Davis would follow with a layup of his own to put the Cardinals ahead by three, and the Cardinals would lead the rest of the way. Wesleyan went into the halftime break leading Curry by 10 at 41-31. Senior Jack Mackey lead the Cardinals in points at the half with nine, as he shot 50% (3-6) from deep and Davis added seven points. Sophomore Nathan Krill also had a solid first half, scoring eight points and grabbing five rebounds. For Curry, Senior Tim Flanagan had a great first half, accounting for 16 of Curry's 31 points. Sophomore Damani Carter also contributed nine points and three assists for the Colonels.

Wesleyan began to run away with the game in the second half, as the Cardinals went on a 30-10 run to increase their lead to 71-41 with 9:59 left in the game. Wesleyan would get their lead up to a game high of 37 on a layup by Freshman Kelly Hogan with 5:45 remaining. All of the Cardinals Freshman were able to get some valuable playing time in the game, with Hogan, Jordan Bonner, Kevin O'Brien and Salim Green all getting into the points column. Freshman Andrew Gardiner was able to get an assist on a nice pass to Sophomore Chad Elliott, who converted the layup. The Cardinals went onto win the game 88-55.

For Wesleyan Davis finished with a team high 20 points and Mackey finished with 15. Krill added 13 points and a team high nine rebounds. Edmonds finished with 5 points and Rafferty finished with four points and nine rebounds. For Curry, Flanagan finished with 16 and Carter finished with 11, and Freshman Luke Schreiner finished nine points on the night.

Wesleyan will return to action on Saturday December 12 against Westfield St at 3 p.m. Curry will take on Endicott on January 5th at 7:30 p.m.  (Game Recap Courtesy of Wesleyan Sports Information)
