Jones Surpasses 1,000 Career Points as Men's Basketball Holds Off UNE, 80-75

MILTON, Mass. - Senior Antonio Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) poured in a game-high 29 points, becoming the 19th player in school history to score 1,000 career points, as Curry held off the University of New England, 80-75, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action Tuesday night in Milton. With the win, the Colonels improved to 4-12 on the season and 2-7 in league play. The Nor'Easters slipped to 5-11 overall and 3-6 in CCC action.

Jones scored 20 of his 29 points in the first half, helping Curry build a 44-34 advantage at the break. Sophomore Jean-Luc Parker (Georgetown, Texas) kept UNE close by scoring 12 of his team-best 20 points in the opening frame. Both teams shot better than 53% over the first 20 minutes of play.

The Colonels threatened to make the game a runaway, stretching their lead to 17 points (51-34) at 16:10 of the second half on a layup by sophomore James Pina (Warwick, R.I.). But the Nor'Easters came storming back, and closed to within four points (76-72) with 43 seconds remainign in regulation on a layup from junior Devin Thompson (Winthrop, Mass.). But the visitors could get no closer, as the hosts connected on four of six free-throw attempts over the final 42 seconds to clinch the victory.

Jones made five shots from beyond the arc among his 11 total baskets. Senior Matt Russell (south Portland, Maine) notched a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Pina chipped in with 12 points, while junior Danny Brooks (Boston, Mass.) added 10.

Parker shot 7-of-13 as part of his 20 points. Thompson poured in 18 points and shared team-high honors in rebounding with seven boards. Sophomore Matt Lettick (Orange, Conn.) aided the cause with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Both teams resume CCC play on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., with Curry traveling to Wentworth and UNE hosting Western New England.
