
LEICESTER, Mass. – Reginald Finney (Ansonia, Conn.) scored a team high 16 points off the bench as Becker College defeated Curry College 77-58 in non-conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Leicester Gymnasium. The win lifts the Hawks record to 6-2, while the Colonels fall to 2-7.
David Maturah (Windsor Locks, Conn.) led all Becker starters 14 points. Donovin Ford-Hayes (Windsor Locks, Conn.) poured in 13 points, while leading the Becker with eight boards and six assists. Kyle Credle (Queens, N.Y.) also had 13 points, while Jessy Michaud (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) chipped in with 10 points.
Antonio Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) finished with a game high 22 points to pace the Colonels. Damani Carter (Miami, Fla.) added 11 points, while James Pina (Warwick, R.I.) pulled down a game high ten rebounds.
Curry jumped out to an early 9-0 lead to open the game. Rashaun Liggon (Elizabeth, N.J.) tied the game 15-15 with 8:42 remaining in the first half on a free throw. On the Hawks next possession, Jessy Michaud hit a pair of free throws to give Becker their first lead of the game.
After Tim Flanagan (Providence, R.I.) tied the game at 17-17 with a mid range jumper, Becker went on a 9-3 run, hitting three straight shots from beyond the arc to take a 26-20 advantage.
Trailing 27-22 with 1:40 remaining in the first, a pair of Tim Flanagan free throws and a three pointer front Antonio Jones tie the game for the third time. Donovin Ford-Hayes gave the Hawks a 29-27 lead at halftime when he nailed a jumper as time expired.
The second half belonged to Becker as the Hawks opened on an 11-0 run. With 6:49 remaining in regulation, Donovin Ford-Hayes hit a jumper to give the Hawks their largest lead of the game at 70-39. The Hawks shot 70 percent from the field in the second half to end the first semester with a four game winning streak.
