Men's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Visiting Roger Williams, 87-80

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College came up short against visiting Roger Williams, 87-80, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action Wednesday night in Milton. The Hawks improved to 8-14 on the season and 7-8 in CCC action, while the Colonels fell to 4-18 overall and 3-12 in league play.

Roger Williams took its biggest lead of the first half (35-28) after junior Joseph Henry (Medway, Mass.) sank a three-pointer with 2:29 on the clock. Curry answered with a 10-4 run over the remainder of the first frame, trimming the deficit to 1 (39-38) heading into intermission. The run started after freshman Stephen O'Neal (Roxbury, Mass.) made a shot from beyond the arc and was capped off with a layup by senior Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.).

With 2:45 remaining in regulation, the Hawks claimed their largest lead of the game (79-65) after junior Ryan Palumbo (Warwick, R.I.) sank a pair from the charity stripe. The Colonels chipped away and pulled to within five (83-78) after senior Carlos Ribeiro (Charlestown, Mass.) sank a three-pointer with 24 seconds left. After Palumbo made two more free throws with nine seconds to go, Ribeiro converted a quick layup to trim the deficit back to five (85-80) with four seconds left. Curry quickly fouled Palumbo, who then sank both shots at the free throw line, sealing the 87-80 victory.

Roger Williams was led by freshman Chris Bardwell (North Andover, Mass.) with team-highs in points (22) and rebounds (9). Palumbo and Henry added 19 and 16 points, respectively.

Papalambros recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Antonio Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) chipped in with 15 points. Sophomore Alex Kershaw (Boston, Mass.) contributed 12 points, while Ribeiro recorded 11.

Both teams return to CCC action on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., as the Hawks host Wentworth, while the Colonels travel to Endicott.
