Men's Basketball Tripped Up 65-58 by Visiting Becker in Non-Conference Action

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College was edged by visiting Becker College, 65-58, in non-conference men's basketball action Thursday night in Milton. The Hawks improve to 8-8 on the season, while the Colonels fall to 3-13.

In a closely-contested first half neither team opened a lead greater than six points. Curry accomplished that twice, at 15:04 (11-5) on a layup by senior Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.); and with 17 seconds (35-29) prior to intermission on a layup by freshman Kenneth Ramos (Dorchester, Mass.). Becker junior Donovin Ford-Hayes (Windsor Locks, Conn.) was fouled in the act of shooting a three-pointer and made all three free throws, making the score 35-32 at the break.

The Hawks took control of the contest midway through the second frame taking the lead for good at 11:16 (49-47) on a layup by freshman Kyle Credle (Queens, N.Y.). Becker built an eight-point lead (55-47), but Curry whittled the lead down to one (55-54) after a pair of made free throws by Papalambros. But the Hawks went on to score 10 of the game's final 14 points to clinch the victory.

Becker was led by Roberson with team bests in points (16) and steals (6). Ford-Hayes poured in 11 points, and sophomore Scott Dulaire (Bloomfield, Conn.) chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds. Junior David Maturah (Windsor Locks, Conn.) also had eight boards.

Junior Antonio Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) led the Colonels with a game best 26 points. Papalambros contributed 14 points. Senior Thomas McLean (Paxton, Mass.), junior Jordan Vieira (Marbella, Spain), and freshman Paul Preziosi (Quincy, Mass.) shared a team high in rebounds with six apiece.

The Hawks return to action Tuesday night hosting New England Colligate Conference (NECC) rival Wheelock College with a 6:00p.m. tipoff. Curry hosts Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon with a 3:00p.m. start.
