SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - All 10 member institutions from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) were represented on the 2012-13 All-CCC Men’s Basketball Team and the list of major individual award winners, it was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition to the all-conference team, Curry College senior Sedale Jones was named CCC Player of the Year and Gordon College sophomore Hans Miersma was named CCC Defensive Player of the Year. Eastern Nazarene College freshman Jaylen Owens was tabbed CCC Rookie of the Year, Endicott College’s Lance Greene was honored as Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Eastern Nazarene’s Jim Aller was selected as CCC Coach of the Year, and University of New England captured the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Voting for the All-CCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among CCC men’s basketball coaches.

Joining Greene and Miersma as second team selections were John Henault (Endicott), Isiah Pringle (Salve Regina), and A.J. Stephens (Curry).

Honorable mention recipients included Damon Alston (Western New England), Colin Johnson (Wentworth), Matt Langadas (Nichols), Ryan Palumbo (Roger Williams), William Smiley (Salve Regina), and Park Thomas (Gordon).

Jones, a senior guard from Pittsfield, Mass., is completing a stellar three-year career for Curry, the top seed in the upcoming CCC Championship with an 18-7 overall record and a conference mark of 15-3. Entering the postseason, Jones ranks second in the conference in scoring and 12th among all NCAA Division III players with 22.2 points per game, including a league-best 21.4 points per game in CCC play. His production as the top scorer on the league’s second-highest scoring offense is even more impressive, considering that Curry sports three of the CCC’s top-five scorers, all of whom average more than 16 points per game. In addition to his ability to put the ball in the basket, Jones also ranks among the conference leaders in rebounds (8th, 6.3), assists (T9th, 3.0), three-point field goal percentage (9th, 40%) and free-throw percentage (9th. 77%). Jones consistently displays a solid knack for getting to the free-throw line, attempting 196 free throws, which is 74 more than any other player in the CCC. Jones’ leadership has helped Curry earned a number-nine ranking in the latest NCAA Division III Northeast regional rankings.
