Men's Basketball Uses a 54-Point Second Half to Pull Away from Salve Regina, 96-78

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College used a 54-point second half to pull away from visiting Salve Regina, 96-78, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men’s basketball match-up Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels improved to 6-4 overall and 3-0 in the CCC, while the Seahawks dropped to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in league play.
The first half featured three ties and five lead changes. Salve Regina took its biggest advantage (11-7) of the half at 15:43 on a three-pointer by junior Joshua Hohlfelder (Noank, Conn.). Curry responded by erasing the Seahawks’ lead, and established a seven-point edge with less than 10 minutes to play thanks to sophomore Antonio Jones’ (Boston, Mass.) shot from beyond the arc. The Seahawks continued to chip away and regained the lead with just over three minutes remaining in the half, courtesy of a made jumper by junior Isiah Pringle (Queens, N.Y.). Salve Regina headed into the break with just a one-point advantage, 43-42.
In the second half, a Pringle basket at 15:05 gave the Seahawks a 56-51 lead, but the Colonels dominated for the remainder of the game. A dunk by senior Ted Amendola (Hyde Park, Mass.) at 11:46 capped off a 15-0 Curry run and gave the hosts their first double-digit lead of the day.
The Colonels were led by senior Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, Mass.) with25 points. Junior Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.) and Antonio Jones each had 18 points. Amendola accumulated 12 points and team -high eight rebounds. Junior Carlos Riberiro (Charlestown, Mass.) also had 12 points and a team-high four steals.
The Seahawks were led by Pringle with 25 total points. Hohlfelder followed with 22 points, a game-high nine rebounds and a team-high four steals. Junior Patrick Dinneen (Medfield, Mass.) also contributed 10 points.
Both teams resume CCC play next Tuesday on the road, as the Colonels visit Roger Williams (8:00 p.m.) while the Seahawks travel to Eastern Nazarene (7:00 p.m.).
