Men's Basketball Tripped Up 70-66 at TCCC Rival Regis

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College men’s basketball team defeated Curry College Saturday (Jan. 15) by the score of 70-66.The Pride move to 9-6 overall on the season and 2-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). The Colonels fall to 4-10 overall on the season and are 2-1 in TCCC play.

The Pride opened the game with an up-tempo offense fueled by the strong play of senior Phil Alibrandi (York, Maine./York) who tallied nine points in the first half.  The Pride brought their lead to 6-0, five minutes into the game and increased it to nine when Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass./ Abington) hit a three-pointer at the 12 minute mark.

The Colonels answered back with the strong play of Jarrell Jackson (Brockton, Mass./ North Cambridge) and Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, Mass./ Pittsfield) who each tallied seven points apiece in the first half. Jackson’s late three-point shot brought the Colonels within nine points with the score at halftime being 29-20 in favor of the Pride.

The Pride opened up the scoring in the second half to lift their lead to 11. Senior Derrick Neal (Boston, Mass./Brighton) hit a deep jumper to raise the lead to 13 points. Jackson ended the Colonels scoring drought by netting a jumper to tally the Colonels first points in the second half. The Pride continued to execute on offense with the strong play of Neal who tallied 26 points in the game.

Late in the second half the Colonels managed to buckle down on defense and halt the Pride’s up-tempo offense. Jackson battled back hitting a three-point shot at the 10 minute mark to cut the lead to seven.

The Colonels continued to capitalize and cut the lead to two, when Jackson made a pair of free throws. Neal soon rallied his team hitting a long three-point shot to preserve the lead. Chambers solidified the Pride’s lead by hitting a clutch three-point shot, putting the Pride up by five and on pace to win the game. Chambers finished the contest with 14 points.

Jackson continued to play well for the Colonels tallying a team high of 22 points. Jones also had a strong showing for the Colonels scoring a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. This strong play was not enough as the Pride went on to finish out the game with the lead 70-66.
