Colby-Sawyer led the entire first half and had its largest lead (25-18) with 6:37 to go after a pair of free throws by freshman forward Jason Chevrefils (Manchester, NH). Curry kept the score close and trailed 35-32 at intermission.
Curry battled back in the second half and led for the first time (62-60) with 4:43 remaining in regulation after a jumper by junior center Chris Bonadies (Medfield, MA). Colby-Sawyer pulled within three (71-68) after a layup by senior forward Jon Chaloux (Barre, VT) with 41 seconds remaining. Chargers’ sophomore forward James Tobin (Brookline, NH) then hit a three-pointer with two seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.
Curry pulled ahead early in the extra frame, but Colby-Sawyer tied it up at 74-74 with 3:00 remaining after a three-pointer by sophomore guard Will Bardaglio (Wayne, ME). A 15-5 Colonels’ run was started when sophomore guard Jarrell Jackson (Brockton, MA) hit a pair of free throws with 2:42 to go.
Jackson led the Colonels in scoring with a game-high 28 points. Junior forward Philippe Jourdain (Cambridge, MA) poured in 25 points, Bonadies chipped in with 11 and senior guard Mark Mastrullo (Billerica, MA) contributed 10. Jourdain had a double-double with a game-high 14 rebounds.
Colby-Sawyer was led by Chevrefils with 20 points, while Bardaglio knocked down 18 points. Chaloux’s first basket of the game put him over the 1,000 career-point plateau and he went on to score 14. Senior guard David Rosso (Wilmington, VT) had 13.
Curry returns to action on January 21, hosting Amherst College at 7:30 p.m. Colby-Sawyer next plays on January 23, hosting Nichols in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
