Football Battles with UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Curry College football team was defeated by UMass Dartmouth, 28-14, in non-conference action at Cressy Field.

After going down by 13 points in the first quarter, the Colonels battled their way into the lead over the course of the game, starting with an 85-yard, 19-play drive in the third quarter that resulted in a two-yard rushing touchdown by Finn Sullivan (Newburyport, Mass.).

In the fourth quarter, Montie Quinn (Goose Creek, S.C.) ran up the middle for 77 yards, finally coming to a stop on the UMass Dartmouth five-yard line. Hunter Telesco (New Canaan, Conn.) punched it in on the next play with a five-yard rush to put the Colonels on top 14-13.

The Corsairs retook the lead late in the fourth quarter off an interception by Xavier Lopes that was returned for a touchdown. Another score late in the game put the home team on top, 28-14, which would end up being the final score of the contest.

Quinn led the Colonels offensively with 169 yards on 19 rushing attempts while Adem Kica (Oxford, Conn.) led the team defensively with 10 total tackles. Michael Sims (Baltic, Conn.) finished the game with five tackles and one interception.

Curry dominated the run game, rushing for a total of 221 yards compared to 126 for the Corsairs. The Colonels also finished with 16 first downs compared to 14 for UMass Dartmouth.

Curry College (0-2) returns to action on Saturday (9/16) to host MIT at Walter M. Katz Field beginning at 1 p.m.
