MILTON, Mass. - Curry nearly overcame a 6-1 deficit, falling just short to lose 7-6 to Roger Williams University in a Conference of New England baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Jack Vallely Diamond.
With the loss, the Colonels' overall record drops to 8-18 and 4-9 in conference play.
Trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Colonels' offense kicked into gear with a solo home run by Kyle Doolin, his first of the year. With the deficit extended to 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Tommy Marshall walked with the bases loaded, while an RBI by Brandon Mantilla-Mercado on a later at-bat cut the visitors' lead to 6-3.
The Colonels continued to claw their way back into the game, cutting the lead to just one run on two separate occasions, the first in the bottom of the seventh when Devin Grove scored two off a RBI single to leave the score at 6-5 in favor of the Hawks. Marshall drove in an additional run in the eighth to give the game its final score of 7-6 and leave the Colonels one run short of an impressive comeback.
