BRISTOL, R.I. - Curry College scored in four straight innings to overcome an early 8-0 deficit, defeating Roger Williams University 13-12 in a Conference of New England baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Paolino Field.
With the win, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 6-11 with a conference record of 2-3.
After going down 8-0 in the first, Kyle Doolin jumpstarted the Curry comeback with a three-run home run in the top of the third that cut the deficit to a manageable five runs. The Colonels tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth off an RBI single by Erik Leonard and a sacrifice fly from Tino Gagliardi.
Trailing 10-5 heading into the sixth. Michael Desroches drove in a run on a fielder's choice, followed by an RBI single by Doolin that put the Colonels within three runs of the Hawks' lead. The seventh inning saw the Colonels take their first lead of the game, with RBIs from Desroches, Tommy Marshall, Leonard, and Gagliardi resulting in a five-run inning that put Curry ahead 12-10.
Desroches picked up his third RBI in the top of the eighth to give the Colonels a much-needed insurance run, setting up Marshall, who pitched the last two innings of the contest to stave off Roger Williams and earn the save.
Doolin was a triple away from hitting for the cycle, finishing 4-for-5 with a home run, double, and four RBIs. Leonard got his bat going, with a perfect 4-for-4 day from the batter's box while walking twice and driving in a pair of runs. Marshall was another major contributor to the offense, going 3-for-6 with one RBI.
Curry College returns to action on Saturday, April 5th, for an away doubleheader against Hartford beginning at noon.
