
AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Curry College baseball closed out spring games in Florida with a win and a loss in a doubleheader against Ohio Wesleyan, losing game one 4-1 and game two 11-7.
With the losses, the Colonels conclude Florida play with a 4-5 record.
GAME ONE: Ohio Wesleyan 4, Curry 1
The Colonels' only run was scored in the top of the fourth inning. Tommy Marshall walked to lead off the inning and reached third on a throwing error by the pitcher. Erik Leonard earned the RBI with a sacrifice fly to the right fielder.
Devin Grove recorded the only Curry hit of the game, a linedrive single to the gap in left-center field.
GAME TWO: Ohio Wesleyan 12, Curry 7
Curry put runners on second and third in the bottom of the second inning, setting up Grove who lined a double off the left-field wall, clearing the bases and giving the Colonels a 2-0 lead. Grove reached third on a ground out and was driven in by Tommy Marshall to put Curry on top 3-0 to end the inning.
Marshall walked to lead off the bottom of the fifth and was driven in on the next at-bat by Kyle Doolin who shot a line drive between the right and center fielder for an RBI double. Later in the inning, Tino Gagliardi hit an RBI single and Brandon Polanceo hit an RBI double to drive in another two runs, giving the Colonels a 6-0 advantage.
Grove continued to shine, leading off the sixth inning with a double over the centerfielder's head, and advancing to third on a single by Marshall. Drew Fagala reached on a fielder's choice, scoring the runner from third to give Curry a 7-2 advantage heading into the final inning.
After a 10-run top of the seventh, the Colonels fought to get back in the game in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases for Brandon Mantilla-Mercado who grounded into a double play.
Curry College returns home to continue regular season play, starting with a home game against Lasell on Tuesday, March 18th, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
