Baseball Runs Over Rams

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College defeated Framingham State University 11-10 Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference collegiate baseball game at Jack Valley Baseball Diamond.

With the win, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 6-28 while remaining 0-12 in conference play.

Drew Fagala (San Antonio, Texas) walked to get things started with two outs in the bottom of the third, followed by Cam Barry (Manchester, Conn.) launching a double to right-center field to put runners at second and third. Tommy Marshall (Hanson, Mass.) cleared the bases with an RBI single to left field, followed by three straight singles which loaded the bases for Brandon Polanco (Brownsville, N.Y.), who doubled down the right-field line to score two and cut the visitor's lead to 6-4.

Zachary McCarthy (Plympton, Mass.) launched a double off the left-field wall to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by George Calderon (New York, N.Y.). Fagala took advantage of the runner in scoring position, hitting a line drive RBI single to center field to put the Colonels within one. Later in the inning, Marshall tied the game at 6-6 with a double down the left-field line, scoring a runner from third.

The Colonels picked up another two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, starting with an RBI double down the left-field line by McCarthy to score Peter Moor (Taunton, Mass.) from third. McCarthy later advanced to third base and scored on a wild pitch, leaving Curry trailing 9-8.

The Colonels loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning, setting up Marshall to single to right field to pick up his third hit and fifth RBI of the game and give Curry its first lead of the game. The home team wasn't done scoring, loading the bases again for Polanco who was hit by a pitch to put Curry on top 11-9.

Luke Gomes (Acushnet, Mass.) earned the win, pitching 4.2 innings after taking over in the fifth inning.

Curry College returns to action with a doubleheader against Gordon College on Saturday, May 4th, to close out competition in 2024.
