Baseball Absorbs a 7-2 Defeat to Visiting Framingham State in Non-Conference Action

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College dropped a 7-2 decision to visiting Framingham State University in non-conference baseball action Friday afternoon in Milton.

With the victory, the Rams improve to 21-14 on the season and will host Bridgewater State University in their conference finale with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.

The Colonels fall to 16-11 overall and are set to host Wentworth Institute of Technology tomorrow for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.

The scoring was opened in the bottom of the second inning when sophomore Nick Crivello (Blackstone, Mass.) reached on an error to the shortstop. Sophomore Brian Burke (Swampscott, Mass.) followed with a double, plating Crivello, an unearned run charged to Framingham State starter Dillon Corliss (Winterport, Maine).

The Rams responded in the following half inning with a home run off the bat of senior Matt Gerard (Milford, Mass.) charging a run to Curry's sophomore starter Mike Reiher (Ramsey, N.J.).

Neither team would score again until the top of the sixth when freshman Jordan Pallazola (Rockport, Mass.) reached on an error to the shortstop. Pallazola stole second during junior J.R. Gray's (Lowell, Mass.) at-bat. Gray responded with a single advancing Pallazola, putting runners on the corners. Gray stole during junior Ryan Connelly's (West Roxbury, Mass.) at-bat and Connelly proceeded to single to center bringing across Pallazola, unearned. Senior Kevin Driscoll (Chelmsford, Mass.) bunted back to the pitcher advancing Connelly to second putting two runners in scoring position. Junior Jake Wardell (Hudson, Mass.) followed with a single to the second baseman plating Gray, unearned. Wardell would go on to advance to second on an error which also scored Connelly, unearned.

The Colonels responded in the bottom half of the seventh with freshman Anthony Sciaudone (York, Maine) singling to left center. Sophomore Alex McLean (Elliot, Maine) followed with a single of his own to left field. Senior John Arens (Milton, Mass.) strung another single together to load the bases. Freshman Evan Morris (Pembroke, Mass.) walked scoring Sciaudone. The Rams would get out of the inning only allowing one run.

Framingham would respond in the following half inning with senior John Gill (Hudson, Mass.) starting things up with a bunt single and advancing to second on an error by the pitcher, freshman Matt Hailey (Weymouth, Mass.). Gray followed with a single of his own putting runners on the corners. Gray stole second and Driscoll walked loading the bases for Wardell. He provided a sacrifice fly out to left field, bringing in Gill.

The Rams would get two more in the top of the ninth starting with a walk from senior Ivan Colon (Waltham, Mass.). Pallazola doubled down the left-field line bringing Colon home. Gill drew a walk and Pallazola stole third during the at bat. Gill would steal second afterwards and they both moved up a base on a wild pitch, scoring Pallazola, unearned.

Reiher (0-3) took the loss going seven full innings giving up four runs, only one earned on nine hits and two walks while striking out six. Hailey came on going two innings giving up three runs, two earned on three hits and four walks.

Corliss got the win going seven full giving up two runs, one earned on two walks while striking out seven. Junior Brendan McDonough (Chelmsford, Mass.) got the ball for one inning only striking out one. Freshman Chris Riga (Westfield, Mass.) got the ball for the last inning giving up a hit and two walks while striking out a pair.
