Baseball Season Ends with 7-4 Loss to Roger Williams in CCC Semi-Finals
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Curry College saw its season come to an end on Monday afternoon, eliminated from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Baseball Tournament after a 7-4 loss to Roger Williams in the semi-finals. The Colonels wrapped up their season at 18-24, while the Hawks (17-26) advanced to the CCC Finals against Western New England.

Curry got on the board first in the opening frame when junior Matt Rodriguez reached on an error but still drove in classmate Shayne McDonald from third. Roger Williams pulled even at 1-1 in the top of the second on an RBI fielder’s choice by senior Chris Comeau that scored freshman Chris Travers.

The Hawks went ahead for good with a four-run fourth, highlighted by run-scoring singles from seniors Tim Georgen and Trevor Manzi. The Colonels closed the gap to 5-3 with single runs in the fourth and the sixth. Both of those runs were driven in by senior David Stevens.

But Roger Williams put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh, as both Georgen and Comeau notched their second RBI of the game. Curry did get a run-scoring double from senior Carlos Cornejo in the bottom of the ninth, but could not complete a comeback.

Hawks’ sophomore starter Bryan Motta (3-3) got the win, tossing eight innings, allowing 10 hits three earned runs and three walks while striking out three.  Junior Chris Anderson got the final three outs to record his second save. Sophomore Matt O’Neill (0-4) took the loss, giving up six hits, three walks and two earned runs over 3 2/3 innings. He fanned three.
