Junior Chris Crutcher (Londonderry, N.H.) gave the Owls (26-9) another strong start. He threw four shutout innings, giving up one hit, while striking out three to improve his record at 6-1. Junior John Coughlin (Litchfield, N.H.) gave up a hit and a run in his 1.2 innings of work and senior Kyle O’Brien (Springfield, N.H.) pitched the final 1.1 innings surrendering one run on two hits.
Winners of four straight coming into today’s game, Keene State scored three runs in the first inning when senior Larry Longo (Londonderry, N.H.) homered over the center field wall.
The Owls picked up two more runs in the second inning on RBI from both junior Greg Bates (Salem, N.H.) and Kyle Morrill (Auburn, N.H.). Morrill would later homer in the fourth inning and finish the day the with four hits and four RBI.
In the fifth inning, senior Erik Bergstrom (Enfield, CT) doubled to right field scoring Morrill and sophomore Matt Boulay (Stafford Springs, CT). In the top of the sixth inning, Boulay doubled to left field scoring freshmen Tanner Chase (York, ME) and Ian Seawards (Dover, N.H.).
In the bottom of the inning, Curry junior Sam Barron (Florence, MA) walked, stole second and then scored on freshman Matt Warren’s (Wilbraham, MA) single to left center.
Keene State came right back with a big seventh inning in which they tallied six RBI, getting contributions from both Chase (1) and Boulay (2).
Curry (13-19) would get an unearned run in the seventh and final frame.
Freshmen starter Travis Levesque (Middleboro, MA) took the loss for the Colonels and his record falls to 0-2 on the year.
Curry resumes play on Wednesday at 2 p.m., hosting rival Endicott for a conference doubleheader. Keene State continues play on Saturday when it hosts Southern Maine for a doubleheader conference matchup beginning at 12 p.m.
