Baseball Drops Season Opener vs. Mount Saint Vincent, 10-7

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – College of Mount Saint Vincent junior right hander Mike McManus worked 6.2 effective innings and classmate Kevin Coogan went a perfect 4-for-4 on Sunday as the Dolphins picked up a 10-7 win over Curry. The win snaps a three game losing streak for the Mount. The Colonels drop their season opener, falling to 0-1.
After falling behind 2-0 after a Matt Rodriguez two-run home run, the Dolphins rebounded with three tallies in the home half of the inning to take a lead they would not give back. The Dolphins collected three hits in the inning, including a two-run single from Jason Rivera. Coogan drove in the third run of the inning for the Dolphins with a two out single.
The Dolphins did all of their offensive work in the first four innings, adding a run in the second, four more in the third and two tallies in the fourth. Coogan drove home a run with a triple in the four run third inning and T.J. Laible drove home two more with a double to left center.
Following the two-run first for Curry, McManus settled in to work three straight scoreless innings before allowing single runs in the fifth and the sixth. Overall he allowed four runs on 11 hits and struck out four. He also picked off three runners in the game as he moved to 2-0 on the season.
The Dolphins pounded out 15 hits on the day and finished with three extra base hits. Coogan ripped a double and a triple, scored a run and led the Mount Saint Vincent offensive attack with three RBI.
Laible and Josh Sharpe each finished the day 2-for-4 with a run scored and Tim Hoxha continued to swing a steady bat after going 2-for-5 with a run scored.
