GREENWOOD, Ind. - One student-athlete each from the Curry College men's and women's soccer teams were named Tuesday afternoon to the Academic All-District Team, as selected by the College Sport Communicators.
Representing the men's soccer team was junior JD Santiago (La Plata, Md.), while senior Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass.) represented the Curry women's soccer program.
Santiago, a sport & recreation management major, started 15 games for Curry this season, compiling two goals and two assists for six points. In two seasons for the Colonels, he has totalled four goals and six assists for 14 points, and has started all 33 games in which he has appeared. He was selected as one of his team's captains at the beginning of the season, and is an active member of the Curry Student-Athlete Leadership Program.
Borges, a public health & wellness and biology double major, was Curry's leading scorer in 2022 with eight goals and four assists for 20 points, all career-highs. She started all 19 games and led her team to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinals for the first time in six years. She was named a CCC Second Team All-Conference selection for her efforts. Borges is also a member of the Student-Athlete Leadership Program, a two-time team captain, and is a dedicated member of the staff of the Curry Sports Medicine department.
As Academic All-District honorees, Santiago and Borges earn spots on the ballot for Academic All-America recognition, which will be announced in early December.
