Curry Athletics Announces End of Year Award Winners

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College announced the recipients of its major end-of-year awards on Tuesday evening, including seven awards from its Department of Athletics.

The recipients for Male and Female Athlete of the Year were men's ice hockey's Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Saskatchewan) and women's soccer's Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass.).

Cooper posted a 20-6-1 record in 27 games for the Colonels this season with a save percentage of .922 and goals against average of 1.92 on the year. Cooper was named Commonwealth Coast Conference's Goaltender and Co-Player of the Year, and was named to the CCC All-Conference First Team. He was named CCC Goaltender of the Week on two occasions, and was an American Hockey Coaches Association East All-America Second Team selection.

Borges led the Colonels with eight goals in her final season in a Curry uniform, a mark that was tied for fourth in the CCC. With four assists as well, Borges finished the season with 20 points, leading the Colonels and ranking fourth in the conference. She was named a Second Team All-CCC selection.

Receiving the Male and Female Scholar Athlete Awards were football's Michael Sims (Baltic, Conn) and women's basketball's Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.).

Sims, a junior linebacker on the Curry football team, Curry's leading tackler in 2022. The business administration major finished the season with 86 tackles, ranking sixth in the CCC. Of his 86 tackles, 48 were solo, seven were for loss, and one was a sack. He also forced two fumbles, intercepted a pass, and blocked a kick on the year. Sims has a cumulative grade point average of 3.92.

Remillard, who will graduate from Curry in May with a degree in special education. While maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.93, Remillard started every game for the women's basketball program this season, ranking third on the Colonels with 8.1 points per game.

Rounding out the honorees were three recipients of the Colonel Pride Award, women's basketball forward Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.), softball utility player Emily Bussiere (Stow, Mass.), and Student Center Dining Hall employee Julie (Jools) Pemberton.

The Colonel Pride Award recognizes senior student-athletes who display good sportsmanship, coachability, an excellent work ethic all while embodying Colonel pride.​​ A member of the Curry College community is also recognized each year for their support and dedication to Curry student-athletes.
