Statement From Athletic Director Vinnie Eruzione Regarding Spring Sports

Dear Members of the Curry College Community,

We're excited to report that today the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced its decision to return to conference competition for the spring 2021 season. The planned start date is March 27, with sponsored competition exclusively against other CCC member institutions in the sports of baseball, softball, men's & women's lacrosse and men's & women's tennis.

We could not be more thrilled for the student-athletes and coaches of Curry and the Commonwealth Coast Conference. This news is especially validating for our student-athletes, coaches and athletics staff members who have remained vigilant in their work each day to adhere to our health and safety protocols in hopes to compete and represent Curry this spring. It is with that same diligence that we will start the spring sports season. In hopeful anticipation of the March 27 start date, we are prepared to meet all additional testing and safety guidelines established by the College, the CCC and NCAA. Our utmost priority is to ensure a healthy and safe environment for competition this spring to allow our teams to play as much of a season as possible.

As part of the CCC's announcement today, all competing schools will be required to test student-athletes and team personnel twice per week, with a negative PCR test result required at least 72 hours before competition. In addition to this new COVID-19 testing protocol which exceeds NCAA recommendations, the CCC will require universal masking for all competitors, team personnel, and officials. Additionally, no spectators will be admitted to the sites of competition.

The CCC will also allow member institutions to engage in contests against other non-conference schools independently. We do intend to compete in non-conference games only until the official CCC season starts on March 27.

While we continue to be hopeful and act with cautious optimism for spring competition, we will also work closely with our Sports Medicine and Health Services staff to carefully monitor for the spread of COVID-19 to minimize the impact on our campus and community.

This time last year was devastating and challenging for all of us, but I will have great joy from seeing our spring athletes compete this year. I am grateful to the Presidents and Athletic Directors of the CCC and our Sports Medicine and Health Services staff members on campus for making this possible.

Stay Safe!
