Curry College Softball - Fall 2016 Summary

The Softball Team wins the 18th Alumni Softball Game!

MILTON, Mass-The Curry College Softball Program held its 18th Alumni game on Sunday, September 25th.  There were 22 softball alumni who returned to the diamond ready for action. Coach Weckworth was pleased to have three game balls thrown out to start the game by Mia Belmonte (daughter of Michelle Maiocca Belmonte '98), Lenex Wilcox (daughter of Margeaux Montuori Wilcox '01), and our Team IMPACT girl, Lauren Dunn.

The alumni squad could only muster 6 hits throughout the game and scored their only run on a delayed steal by Meg Flaherty '14 and Jennifer Lundstrom '14.  The pitching duties for the current team were nicely handled by McKenna Barlow '17, Jordan Lizotte '18, Becca Black '18 and Brooke Westmoreland '20.  The good pitching efforts of Taylor Ahearn '15 and Janelle Mayo'11, kept the alumni team in the game until the 5th inning. After two quick outs, Marissa Bruno '17, Mikayla Korona '17, Brooke Westmoreland '20 and Michaela Colleran '20 produced four straight singles that yielded 3 runs breaking open a 1-1 game producing the final score of 4-1. The current team had 10 hits and the defense played error-free softball.  Kevi Oatway '18 had run producing single in the first inning for the Colonels.

It was a reunion of former Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Star players and members of the Curry College Athletic Hall of Fame.  Michelle Maiocca Belmonte '98, Leanne Tarkanian '00, and Nicole Leckie Breton '01 along with many other great players, enjoyed the day of softball. Alysia DiMuzio '09 and Christina Sancinito '09 both played for the alumni team and will be joining the Hall of Fame later this fall congratulations go out to each player and their families!  It certainly was an exciting game with plenty of laughs as well.  Coach Weckworth was also pleased to have several potential recruits in the stands checking out the festivities. A post-game pizza picnic for about 120 people was held at the field to wrap up the day.

The Curry College Softball Program would like to thank all the players who made it back for this great day of softball and would like to invite you to attend some of our games in the Spring.  Perhaps one more Spring Break Trip to Ft. Myers, Florida would do the trick.  If you were unable to make it to the Alumni Game this year, plan on joining us next year.  It's a really good time!

NESU Softball Classic – Sunday, October 2, 2016

The Curry College Softball Program participated in the NESU Softball Classic on Sunday, October 2nd in Swansea, MA.  This annual tournament serves as an additional way to evaluate "veteran" NESU softball umpires and college softball umpiring candidates.  The Colonels played their three fall games as allowed by the NCAA for their non-traditional season.

They matched up well against the College of New Rochelle, Brandeis University and UMass Dartmouth.  With some timely hitting, solid defense and strong pitching, the Colonels prevailed in all three games.  Families were the MVP's of the day as they brought some amazing food to feed the team during the afternoon break between games.  The weather was surprisingly good, given the rainy week prior to the tournament.

The coaching staff is excited about the effort and the results from the day.  They want to see this level of play continued into the spring season.  As you know, the Lady Colonels open their Spring 2017 campaign in Ft. Myers, Florida in March with a ten game slate. Come see a game!
