Irwin, Perine Honored By CCC and NEWBA in Weekly Awards
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.  Senior captain Emily Irwin (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman Peyton Perine (Fairfax, Va.) have been recognized as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Additionally, Perine was named as the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Rookie of the Week. Irwin joined Perine in the weekly honors as the senior was selected to the NEWBA Honor Roll. 
 
Irwin earns her first Player of the Week nod of the season after she did a little bit of everything for Curry as she averaged 21.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.7 steals, and 3.3 assists per game in the Colonels' three contests. She scored a season-high 29 points against Widener in the opening game of the Cruzin' Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., while also adding six rebounds, six assists, and three steals. She followed that up with 17 points, six rebounds, six steals, and three assists in a loss to Simpson. She closed out the awarding period with an 18-point, nine-rebound game against Thomas, a 47-32 victory. She also had eight steals in the contest.
 
Perine collects her fourth straight Rookie of the Week honor following averages of 15.3 points and 6.7 rebounds in three games for the Colonels. She scored 21 points along with five rebounds, an assist, and a steal against Widener in her team's opening game at the Cruzin' Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She followed that up with 13 points, seven boards, two assists, two steals, and a block against Simpson. Back up north, Perine produced a 12-point, eight-rebound game in a 47-32 win over Thomas. She shot 40.8 percent (20-for-49) from the field in the three games.
 
Irwin, Perine and Curry (5-6 overall, 2-1 CCC) resume conference play on Thursday, January 3 at home against Salve Regina at 5:30 p.m.
