WENHAM, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team earned its first conference win of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Gordon College by a 53-37 final at the Bennett Center in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play.

Freshman Peyton Perine (Fairfax, Va.) scored 14 points to go with two rebounds to fuel the Colonels (3-4 overall, 1-1). Senior Molly Plunkett (Quincy, Mass.) finished with 12 points on 5-for-16 shooting while adding seven boards, two steals, and a block. Senior Emily Irwin was the final player in double figures with 11 points. Irwin also pitched in six rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 32 minutes.

After a near even first quarter with Curry having a two-point lead, 14-12, the Colonels used stifling defense to allow single digit scoring from the Fighting Scots in the final three quarters. Curry outscored Gordon 15-6 in the second frame, highlighted by a defensive stretch where they held the Fighting Scots over the final 6:42 of the quarter. The visitors also scored six points during that span to give the Colonels a 27-20 advantage at the half.

Curry stretched its lead to double digits in the third stanza following an 11-4 run to make the score 40-28. Perine led the way in the frame with six points on 3-for-6 shooting. She added back-to-back buckets during a 6-0 run which extended the lead to 38-26. Irwin added the final bucket of the quarter to send the Colonels into the final frame with 12-point advantage.

The Colonels kept its foot on the gas pedal never looked back for the remainder of the contest. Curry kept the lead in double digits and got its largest advantage of 18 points (53-35) on a layup by Zuquila Mbachiantim (Stratford, Conn.) with 32 seconds left in regulation which carried the Colonels to the 53-37 victory.

Sarah Gibbs (Elizabethtown, Pa.) was the lone Gordon player in double figures with 11 points to go along with eight rebounds, one assist, and three steals. Brooke Dyson (Houston, Texas) registered nine points and four boards in 22 minutes. Alisha Henderson (Oregon City, Ore.) led the home reserves with eight points on 3-for-7 shooting.  

Curry returns home on Tuesday, December 4 to host Nichols College at 7:30 p.m. Gordon (2-6 overall, 1-1 CCC) will next play on Tuesday at home against Western New England University at 5:30 p.m.
