FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team picked up a 67-63 victory over Fitchburg State University on Tuesday night in a non-conference clash at the Parkinson Gymnasium.

The Colonels (2-2 overall) were led by Peyton Perine (Fairfax, Va.) who scored 22 points with 16 rebounds for a double-double in 37 minutes. Amanda Leal (Tyngsboro, Mass.) scored 16 points with seven rebounds, three assists, and five steals. Sam Bamford (Easton, Mass.) posted 11 points with seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

The Falcons (3-2 overall) were led by Angelina Marazzi (Manchester, N.H.) with 25 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and five steals. Catherine Coppinger (Boston, Mass.) posted a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds while shooting 4-for-6 from the floor. Payton Holmes (Carver, Mass.) tallied a team-high 10 points off the bench.

After Fitchburg State opened the game with an 11-2 run, Curry closed out the first quarter to pull within four points. The Falcons held a slim 26-24 lead at halftime.

Fitchburg State extended the margin in the third, scoring eight straight points to lead by as much as 10. Marazzi capped off the run with a three-pointer with 7:13 to go in the stanza. The Colonels answered back with a 7-0 run to pull within three more than halfway through the period. Curry would claim the lead with 2:30 left and pushed it to three with a layup and free throw from Perine with 41 seconds to go. The Falcons added a free throw late to make the score 45-43 heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Curry would grab the lead at the six minute mark on a three pointer from Perine and never looked back. The Colonels extended the lead to as many as seven for the remainder of regulation but would be cut to two on a layup from Coppinger with 1:46 left. The Falcons sunk two free throws with seven seconds remaining to cut the deficit to a one possession game but Leal iced the game with a free throw for the four-point victory.

Curry is back on the court on Monday, November 26 when they travel to Suffolk University in a 7:00 p.m. non-league matchup. Fitchburg State hosts Elms College for its next game on Tuesday, November 27 with tip-off coming at 7:30 p.m.
