Biddeford, Maine - University of New England captured the team championship today at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championships that were held at Rotary Park in Biddeford, Maine. This is the Nor'easters second consecutive title.
Roger Williams junior Hannah Zydanowicz bested the entire field to earn runner of the year honors with a 6K time of 23:15.0. Zydanowicz also earned the runner of the year award.
All-CCC recognition was given to the top-10 finishers, while Runner of the Year honors is awarded to the top finisher, and Rookie of the Year to the top "freshman" runner.
Endicott junior Erin Haynes came in second with a time of 24:17. It was Salve Regina freshman Victoria Varone who finished third with a time of 24:32 good for rookie of the year honors. Roger Williams junior Jamie Wandzilak and UNE freshman Tiana Thomas rounded out the top five with times of 24:44 and 25:00, respectively.
Back to back UNE juniors crossed the finish next with Natalie Hardman finishing in 25:05 and Annelise Donahue crossing at 25:18. Roger Williams freshman Serina Hughes crossed eighth at 25:28. Completing the top-10 for All-CCC recognition were Endicott junior Lauren Boyle (25:32) and UNE freshman Brittany Sorbello (25:38).
Gordon College earned the conference's team sportsmanship award while the coach of the year honor went to UNE head coach Ron Ouellette.
The senior scholar-athlete award went to Alyssa Chamberlain of Western New England. Chamberlain is a sport management major who holds a 3.91 grade point average.
Curry was led by sophomore Leigha Sweeney (Braintree, Mass.) who placed 54th with a time of 28:48. Sweeney was followed by freshman Abigail Ceresi (North Kingstown, R.I.), 28:58 (56th), freshman Lydia Hixson (West Hartford, Conn.), 29:36 (67th), sophomore Megan Erickson (Westbrook, Conn.), 29:40 (69th), junior Jessica Leary (Pembroke, Mass.), 32:37 (102nd), freshman Emily Purdy (Franklin, Mass.), 33:55 (111th), sophomore Shannon Hickey (Salem, N.H.), 34:13 (112th), senior Molly Simon (Moraga, Calif.), 34:52 (144th) and junior Victoria Norton (Fairfield, Conn.), 35:19, (115th).
