Women’s Volleyball Swept in Tri-Match in New York

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Curry College women's volleyball was defeated in both games of Saturday's non-conference tri-match against Manhattanville and Union.

MATCH ONE: Manhattanville 3, Curry 0 (25-4, 26-24, 25-10)

After dropping set one, the Colonels fared better in set two, going on an early four-point scoring run, including a kill by Leah Oscar-Phoenix (Westwood, Mass.) and a kill and service ace by Avia Fraine (Mattapoisett, Mass.).

The Colonels took a 17-14 lead later in the set after going on a 7-2 scoring run, highlighted by a kill and service ace by sophomore Sonja Matheson (Voluntown, Conn.) and additional kills by Oscar-Phoenix, Lauren Guzman (Cranston, R.I.), Morgan Kramer (Brightwaters, N.Y.), and Jenna Cotter (Watertown, Mass.)

Oscar-Phoenix had a team-high four kills while Matheson finished with three kills and nine digs. Sousa led the Colonels with eight assists

MATCH TWO: Union 3, Curry 0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-10)

Curry shot out to a 4-0 lead to start the first set of game two with points coming from a kill by Jess Sullivan (Meredith, N.H.) and a kill and service ace by Morgan Muscato (Plymouth, Mass.). After Union managed to gain an advantage, a kill by Muscato tied the game at 14-14. From there Union broke away and managed to take the set.

Sets two and three played out similarly to the first with the Colonels unable to gain an advantage over the Dutchwomen.

Oscar-Phoenix led the Colonels with seven kills while Sousa and Emma St. Cyr (Dover, N.H.) both finished with 9 assists. Muscato finished with six kills, four digs, and two service aces.

Curry College (4-14, 0-3 CCC) returns to action on Tuesday (10/10) to host Elms in a non-conference match beginning at 6 p.m.
