Women's Volleyball Dropped by Western New England

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference defeat to Western New England University Tuesday evening at the Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-14, 25-17, 25-19.

With the loss, Curry drops to 10-12 overall on the season and 1-6 in CCC play. Western New England improves to 10-10 overall and 3-3 in the CCC.

Set one was all Western New England, as the visitors took the early lead with a convincing 25-8 victory. The Golden Bears hit .333 in the set with 12 kills, paced by junior Sarah Scott with four. Scott also led all players with six digs in the opening set.

Curry's offense found more of a rhythm in set two, but still couldn't keep up with the Golden Bears. Senior Lexi Pereira (Attleboro, Mass.) led all players in the set with six kills for the Colonels, but a balanced attack from Western New England saw six players with at least two kills in the set. Olivia Hall notched five kills without an error to lead the visitors in set two.

The Colonels went on a 7-3 run late in the third set, but the damage was already done and Western New England was able to seal the match. Scott notched four kills in the set to lead all players.

Scott and freshman Alissa Hawes led Western New England with 10 kills each. The pair each recorded double-doubles with 17 and 10 digs respectively.

Pereira paced Curry with 10 of the team's 15 kills on the evening. She also led the hosts with six digs and three service aces.

Curry will be back in action on Thursday evening for Senior Night against Albertus Magnus College at Katz Gymnasium. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
