Women's Volleyball Clips Fitchburg State

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's volleyball team knocked off Fitchburg State University by a final score of 3-0 Saturday morning in non-conference action at Katz Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-18, 25-13, 25-22.

With the victory, Curry moves back above .500 at 8-7 overall. Fitchburg State drops to 1-12.

Curry's offense was clicking right from the outset, as the hosts notched 10 kills with just one attack error to jump ahead to the 1-0 lead. Haley Ferrara (Sandown, N.H.), Lexi Pereira (Attleboro, Mass.), and Amanda Wood (Tokyo, Japan) each recorded three kills in the opening set to help put the Colonels in front early.

The Colonels continued to control the match in set two, easily jumping out to a 2-0 advantage in the match by hitting at a clip of .333 to take the set 25-13. Curry also recorded six service aces in the set en route to taking the commanding lead, led by sophomore libero Avia Fraine (Mattapoisett, Mass.) with three.

The Falcons put up a solid fight in the third and final set, but could not hold on even after leading 6-2 in the early stages. 

Pereira finished as the match's leading offensive player, notching nine kills with just one error for an attack percentage of .364. Wood finished right behind her with eight kills and a .353 attack percentage. As a team, the Colonels hit .353. Leading Curry defensively was senior Rachel Damstra (Houston, Texas) with 10 digs to go along with 18 assists.

Next up for Curry, they will host Roger Williams on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup.
