Volleyball Dominates Lesley to Match Program-Best Win Total

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Curry College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over Lesley University on Thursday evening, their second sweep of the Lynx this season. After the match, the Lynx sit at 3-10 overall. On the other side, the Colonels improve to 11-8 on the year, tying a program record for most wins in a season (2017). Additionally, the win guarantees the team will finish the year with their highest ever winning percentage in a season, topping the program-best mark of .417 (10-14) set in 2015 and matched in 2016.

The Lynx got out to a brief lead to start the match at 4-2, but a few plays later, a kill from Caroline Kilduff (Rockland, Mass.) gave the Colonels their first lead of the day at 6-5. Lesley tied the score at 6-6, then again at 7-7, but Curry wasted no time in taking control of the scoring, going up 16-10 following a kill from Lexi Pereira (Attleboro, Mass.). A Colonel service error gave the ball back to the Lynx, but another kill by Pereira sparked a nine-point run, which closed the first set with a 25-11 score, in favor of Curry.

Despite rolling with a new setter to open the second set, the Colonels continued to put points on the board, opening the second stanza with an 11-5 edge. The foes split the next eight points, before an 8-1 run put Curry ahead by a score of 23-10. The Colonels then closed out the set, 25-12, thanks to an ace from Faith Herity (River Edge, N.J.).

Curry opted for a young rotation in the third frame, starting just two seniors to go along with a pair of freshmen and three sophomores, who quickly opened up a 10-5 lead in the stanza. The Colonels extended the lead to 17-8, as Kilduff capped a six-point run with a service ace. The hosts attempted to work their way back into the set, cutting the deficit to six at 18-12, but that would be as close as they could get as they saw the Colonels take the third set by a score of 25-17 to win the match.

Kilduff and Amanda Wood (Tokyo, Japan) led the Colonels with six kills apiece, while Brooke Reissfelder (Biddeford, Maine) collected 14 assists. Lex Bell (Salem, Conn.) held down the Curry defense with 17 digs, while Cassidy Wygonik (Madison, Conn.) turned in eight to top the Lynx. Wygonik also recorded a match-high 12 kills, while Tallin Goldberg (Merrimack, N.H.) was credited with 16 helpers in the loss.

The Colonels will look to carry this momentum into their next match, as they travel to face a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent, the Wentworth Institute of Technology, on Wednesday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. in Boston, Mass. The Lynx get back to work on Tuesday, October 15, as they visit Pine Manor for a pair of matches at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Lesley visited the Gators earlier in the year to play two matches on September 16, sweeping their hosts in both matches.
