Curry Drops Conference Battle with Salve Regina

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Salve Regina University on Tuesday night in a conference matchup at the Katz Gymnasium. The win moves the Seahawks to 15-10 overall and 5-3 in conference play, while the Colonels fall to 11-15 and 2-6 in conference play.

Salve Regina won by set scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-20 as Annie Donahue (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Andee Bender (Lebanon, Conn.) supplied a team-high eight kills each. Samantha Salwa (Ellington, Conn.) paced the visitors with 29 assists while Kathryn Linekin (Ridgefield, Conn.) registered 14 digs.

Grace Stafford (West Yarmouth, Mass.) led Curry with 11 kills. Monica Wilkes (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) registered 20 assists while Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass.) recorded 19 digs in the loss. 

The Seahawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the early going, but the Colonels would come back to take the lead 3-2. Salve Regina grabbed the lead back, going on a four point run before a service error by Cassidy Trabilcy (Phoenix, Ariz.) gave the serve back to the Colonels.

The squads traded points for most of the second set before either could gain the advantage. The Colonels started to create separation when they scored four straight points off to grab a four point lead, 16-12. The Seahawks and Colonels traded points back and forth for the rest of the set, with Salve Regina holding on for a 25-23 decision.

The Colonels jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage in the third set. The teams went back and forth with neither team running away with the set in the early going. The Colonels took their largest lead of the night (12-6) half way through the final set. The Seahawks started to gain momentum, scoring two points quick to cut the lead to four. Curry bounced back to bring the lead back to six. The teams battled back and forth the remainder of the set with the Seahawks pulling away for a 25-20 win.

Curry hits the road for a tri-match on Saturday October 28 at Western New England. The Colonels travel will take on the Western New England at 11:00 a.m. and Keene St. at 1:00 p.m. Salve Regina returns to the court when the travel to Clark in a non-conference matchup on Thursday October 26 at 7:00 p.m.
