Women's Volleyball Absorbs 3-0 Loss to Visiting Endicott in CCC Action

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College lost 3-0 to visiting Endicott College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's volleyball action Tuesday night in Milton. The Gulls improved to 12-5 on the season and 2-0 in the conference, while the Colonels dropped to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in league play.

The Colonels played a competitive first set, but eventually fell to the Gulls, 25-16. In the second set, Endicott cruised past Curry, 25-6, compiling a .323 hitting percentage with 14 kills. The final set was another competitive one, but Endicott prevailed again, 25-17, to seal the victory.

The Gulls were led by sophomore Lauren Sheehan (Bainbridge, Wash.) with a match-high 13 kills, with junior Hayley Knapp (Valencia, Calif.) close behind with nine. Graduate student Alleigh VandeMerkt (Riverside, Ill.) collected a match-best 16 assists and was followed closely by freshman Mareena Clotfelter (Poulsbo, Wash.) with 10. Sophomore Cydney Pierce (Santa Barbara, Calif.) had a match-high 22 digs for Endicott.

Junior Kayla Pedersen (Whitman, Mass.) led the Colonels with a team-best six kills. Trailing close behind was sophomore Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) with four kills. Junior Makayla Hughes (Franklin, N.H.) recorded a team-high eight assists while junior Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) was right behind with seven, while also adding three digs. Sophomore Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass.) led Curry with 13 digs and added two service aces.

The Colonels return to action Thursday night as they host Bay Path at 6 p.m. in non-conference action. The Gulls return home to play conference foe Roger Williams University on Saturday starting at 2 p.m.
