Women's Volleyball Handed a 3-0 Loss by Conference Rival Roger Williams

MILTON, Mass. - The visiting Roger Williams University Hawks defeated Curry College 3-0 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match-up Thursday night in Milton. Set scores were 25-5, 25-13, 25-21. The Hawks improved to 8-4 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Colonels fell to 4-11 on the season and slipped to 0-2 in the CCC.

Roger Williams started the game off with an explosive first set eventually winning it, 25-5. In the second set, the Hawks continued to dominate the match and took the set, 25-13. Curry turned in its best effort in the final set, eventually succumbing 25-21. Roger Williams had a .346 attack percentage that included 37 kills.

The Hawks were led by sophomore classmates Kristen Boyer (Ephrata, Pa.) and Katie Thieret (St. Louis, Mo.) who recorded a match-best seven kills apiece. Freshman Josalyn Benson (Phoenix, Ariz.) dished out a match-high 20 assists. Senior Emily Werth (Cheshire, Conn.) had three aces.

Freshman Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) led the Colonels in kills (4) and blocks (1 solo, 1 assist). Sophomore Nicole Grambley (No. Attleboro, Mass.) had a team-best nine assists. Freshman Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass.) chipped in with 11 digs.

Next up for both teams is a CCC road match at Salve Regina. The Hawks take on the Seahawks tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. while the Colonels travel to Newport for a 7:00 p.m. contest on September 30.
