Women's Volleyball Falls 3-0 at Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University volleyball team posted a 3-0 (27-25, 25-17, 28-26) victory over non-conference foe Curry College on Tuesday evening at the Tinsley Center.
 
Bridgewater (4-2) pulled out a 27-25 victory in game one of the match as the two teams went back-and –forth before the Bears scored the final two points to take a 1-0 lead.  The hosts would use an 8-1 run to close out the 25-17 win in game two.
 
In game three, the Bears battled back from a 21-13 deficit by scoring eight straight points to knot the score at 21-21. The teams would trade points before the Bears broke a 26-all tie with a kill and an ace to win the game and the match.
 
Freshman setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) led the way for the hosts as she notched 22 assists, five kills and an ace.  Freshman outside hitters Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) and Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) tallied seven kills and eight kills, respectively, while senior middle hitter Michelle Atkins (Chelsea, Mass.) added seven kills and two assisted blocks.  Junior outside hitter Rebecca Morse (Norton, Mass.) registered five kills and junior setter Sarah Mullarkey (Salem, Mass.) finished with12 assists, two kills and two aces to round out the Bear's top performers.
 
The Bears finished with 41 kills on the evening and a .217 hitting percentage. Serving was an issue at times as noted by the team's 12 serving errors.
 
Freshman outside hitter Nicole Grambley (North Attleboro, Mass.) paced the visiting Colonels with eight kills, six aces, 15 digs and three blocks (one solo), and junior setter Hannah Robison (Cumberland, R.I.) added 14 assists and 12 digs.  Freshman Kayla Greeley (Medford, Mass.) chipped in with 17 digs, one ace and a pair of kills while junior middle hitter Emily Boudreau (Marshfield, Mass.) notched six kills, two aces and three digs.
 
The Colonels (2-5) notched ten aces in the match but struggled with their attacking recoding just 23 kills and a .035 hitting percentage.
 
Both teams are back in action on Thursday evening. Bridgewater entertains non-league foe Regis College at six, while Curry travels to Becker College for a seven o'clock match with the Hawks. (Release courtesy of BSU Sports Information)
