Women's Volleyball Handed 3-0 Loss at Regionally-Ranked Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team, ranked seventh in New England by the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA), defeated Curry College 3-0 (25-11, 25-7, 25-16) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match up—the first ever meeting between the two schools.

Freshman outside hitter Lauren Broderick (Centerport, N.Y.) led a balanced attack for the Hawks with seven kills, 13 digs, and three aces for the Hawks.  Classmate Andrea Gorman (Wilbraham, Mass.) added seven kills and three blocks while Abby Cunningham (Catasauqua, Pa.), Holly Hancock (Tilton, N.H.), and Hannah Koennecke (Cazenovia, N.Y.) added six kills apiece.  Sophomore Alexa Armenti (Dix Hills, N.Y.)had four aces and dished out 21 assists as Roger Williams hit .393 as a team.  Freshman Emily Werth (Cheshire, Conn.) had 14 digs as the Hawks defense held the visitors to a team hitting percentage of .051. 

The Curry Colonels were led by freshman outside hitter Courtney DiBiasio (Coventry, R.I.) with seven kills and seven digs.  Tyla Miller (Marshfield, Mass.) had nine digs.  Kaitlyn Poirier (Acushnet, Mass.) and Hannah Robison (Cumberland, R.I.) split the setting duties with six assists each.

The Hawks improve to 19-3 (3-0 in CCC) and will return to the court on Sunday, October 9 as they host the Little Rhody Championship.  Curry drops to 3-12 (0-4 in CCC) with loss and will travel to Cambridge, Mass. on Thursday, October 6 to play Lesley College.
