Women's Volleyball Falls to Smith and Elms in Smith College Tri-Match

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Curry Women’s Volleyball team turned in two strong efforts before falling to Smith College, 3-0 (12-25, 22-25, 10-25), and Elms College, 3-1 (27-29, 25-19, 10-25, 16-25), in a tri-match in Northampton on Saturday.

Against NEWMAC powerhouse Smith (2-0), the Colonels turned in a solid defensive effort with 54 digs against a strong offensive hitting team. Freshman Courtney DiBiasio tallied 16 digs and five kills. Sophomore Samantha Coleman and junior Caitlin O'Neil held the backcourt with 14 and six digs, respectively. The Pioneers were pushed in the second set, but eked out the three-point win.

Against Elms (3-1), Curry came out of the blocks hot with a very close first set, eventually falling 29-27. The Colonels capitalized on the momentum to win the second set, 25-19. Curry posted five service aces, 74 digs and 21 kills. DiBiasio was outstanding once again with 14 digs and six kills. Junior Kendra LeMay recorded five kills and two blocks, while classmate Kaityn Poirier added five kills.
