Strong Blocking Not Enough as Volleyball Drops a 3-0 Decision to Lesley University

MILTON, Mass. – Despite a great overall team effort in front of an impressive turnout of Curry spectators, the Colonels were defeated by visiting Lesley University, 3-0, Thursday night in Milton. Set scores were 25-19, 25-11 and 25-20. With the win, the Lynxs improve to 8-7 while the Colonels fall to 0-9 on the season.

Curry had a good start to the match, with sophomores Cara Fertitta (Chelmsford, MA) and Caitlin O'Neil(Chelmsford, MA) playing strong defense.   In the second set, the Colonels put forth a great effort but could not stop Lesley’s strong attacks.  Freshman setter Katelyn Boutin (Longmeadow, MA) had some excellent dump shots in set #2 and sophomore Melissa Spillane (Plymouth, MA) contributed a valiant effort.

The third set of the night was Curry’s best.  The Colonels leaned on the great serving of sophomore Amanda Willette (Mansfield, MA) to keep the match close.  Sophomore Kaitlyn Poirier (Acushnet, MA) and teammate freshman Jessica Crugnale (North Reading, MA) turned in a good all-around effort defensively and offensively and senior Valerie Harrison (East Boston, MA) had a solid night in blocks.

Curry resumes action on October 10 when it travels to Albertus Magnus to play Bay Path in a 1:00 p.m. match followed by a 3:00 p.m. match against the host.
