Becker Spoils Curry's Home Opener, Handing the Colonels a 3-0 Loss
MILTON, Mass. – Curry College, playing its first-ever home varsity women’s volleyball match, was defeated by visiting Becker College, 3-0, Tuesday night in Milton. Set scores were 25-16, 25-15 and 25-22. With the win, the Hawks improve to 2-7 while the Colonels fall to 0-8 in their inaugural season.

Curry started slowly, but freshman Jenna Butera (Norfolk, MA) and senior Valerie Harrison (East Boston, MA) picked up their blocking in the second set. Butera contributed solid defense from the back row as well.

Sophomore captain Kaitlyn Poirier (Acushnet, MA) turned in a good all-around effort and directed her team to a lead in the third set. The Colonels leaned on the serving of Poirier and classmate Melissa Spillane (Plymouth, MA) in set #3 to jump out to a 9-3 lead. But Becker stormed back, eventually tying the set at 20-20 before cinching the win in straight sets.

Curry resumes action on October 7 when it hosts Lesley University in a 7:00 p.m. match.
