Women's Volleyball Falls 3-0 at Bay Path College in First-Ever Varsity Match

HOLYOKE, Mass.— Bay Path College emerged victorious in its season opener, shutting out visiting Curry College 3-0 in the Colonels' first-ever varsity match. The game scores were 25-13, 25-11 and 25-21 in the NCAA Division III women’s volleyball regional match.

Bay Path was lead by junior outside hitter Vanessa Chaplin (Attleboro, Mass.) who finished with a .385 attack percentage. Chaplin had six kills, six digs and one assist for the match. Senior captain Davi Chuong  (Easthampton, Mass.) led all hitters with a match high eight kills chipping in two aces and three digs. Junior middle hitter Nadine Harkless also posted six kills, five aces, and one block solo. Harkless led the way defensively with seven digs.

Sophomore setter Ashley Provost (Ludlow, Mass.) hit .500 with two perfect dumps, while adding 17 assists for the night. Provost was a force behind the backline shelling out eight service aces and five digs.

Curry’s sophomore outside hitter Melissa Spillane (Plymouth, Mass.) topped the Colonels with a .333 attack percentage. Spillane had three kills, one ace and one dig. Freshman outside hitter Jessica Crugnale (North Reading, Mass.) finished with a team high four kills, four aces and five digs. Freshman setter Katelyn Boutin (Longmeadow, Mass.) added five assists.

The major difference in Bay Path’s offense was taking advantage of 20 attack errors made by Curry. Bay Path hit .222 for the match while Curry had a -.110 team percentage.

Bay Path is now 1-0 while Curry falls to 0-1 on the 2010 campaign. Bay Path will be back in action on September 9th travelling to Mount Holyoke for a 7:00 p.m. match.  Curry travels to Anna Maria College on September 8 for a 7:00 p.m. match.
